Our fees are $60 per term, or $200 per annum if paid before the last Tuesday in March. We offer a discount of $20 per each additional cadet from the same family when paying annually. Fees include all compulsory activities (Squadron Camps, training weekends), uniform hire etc.

Our fees structure is kept reasonable due mainly to the fund-raising efforts of the unit and support committee. Therefore is it compulsory for cadets to attend fund-raising activities when requested (2 or 3 times a year).

We are located at the School of Sport on the Unitec campus, just inside Gate 3, off Carrington Road in Mt. Albert. Please click here for a map of our location.

Please fill in the form, located here. Our recruiting office will make contact with you as soon as they can. By way of general information, we hold 3 recruiting open nights during Term 3 of the school year with recruits joining us from Term 4. The open nights are the best way for new recruits and parents to learn about ATC and No. 19 Squadron and what we have to offer.

Anyone in year 9 or between the ages of 13 and 15 at the start of the school year.

Yes

In a wide variety of ways! By default, as per our charter - all parents of cadets automatically become Support Committee members. You may choose how active a role you take in this, but we do ask of all parents to share when and how they may be able to assist with various activities.

We are grateful for anything from simple tasks such as short-trip transport and chaperoning, to more involvement such as cooking and other camp duties. Many parents opt to take an active position on the Support Committee itself and any involvement here is welcomed.

If you have any special or unique experiences and skills you would like to share with the unit or your business / employer could help, please make contact here and let us know how you can add value to the cadets' experiences.

The most formal way a parent can become involved is to join as an NZCF officer or civilian instructor. Contact us to find out more.

Compulsory activities include: Parade nights, training weekends, Squadron Camps & Fund-raising activities. For promotion, other activities such as Junior & Senior Leaders' courses are also compulsory. There are some voluntary activities such as special Drill & Shooting teams etc.

The New Zealand Defence Force provide regular force personnel as support, adminstrative and directive staff at a national and area level. Yes, there are over 100 ATC, Sea Cadet and Cadet Corps units across New Zealand that you could transfer to. We have also had cadets successfully transfer overseas, but this is at the discretion of the receiving unit/corps. Our unit Commander is happy to advise and provide references in most cases.

Cadet Forces is not a recruiting arm of the NZ Defence Force. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that young people who serve with Cadet Forces seem to adapt more readily to life in the Armed Forces (and the general workforce for that matter!)

Definitely not.

There is no requirement to meet a specific level of fitness to join ATC. However, like many activities, if you are fit you will get greater enjoyment from your experiences. For ATC Officers, there is a general required fitness level to ensure staff are fit and able to best care for cadets in a variety of situations.

No - you volunteer to enter ATC and you can leave at any time.

The majority of cadets serve for up to three years. After that, if you are a senior cadet, you can serve until your 20th birthday. Following this, you have the option of staying on as a Civilian Instructor or applying to become a volunteer NZCF Officer.
